
During his four decades long career in academia and business, Avi has, among others, co-authored a book on early modern European history, taught as a high school teacher in Ramat-Gan, followed by a teaching position at Rutgers University, NJ.
In the mid-eighties, while still living in the US., Avi made a career move to become a business entrepreneur during which he led, among others, the development and operation of a 110MW electric power plant in the United States. In the immediate aftermath of the Oslo accords, Avi returned with his family to Israel, where he subsequently founded and managed an industry-leading high-tech company in Israel. After 17 years of running the day-to-day business of the entity, Avi has recently sold his interests in the company and retired.
Since his early twenties, Avi has been an activist in the Israeli Peace Movement, where, among others, he served, as the campaign manager for the Progressive List for Peace, a left-wing Jewish-Arab party, led by Uri Avneri, General (ret.) Matti Peled and Muhammad Me’ari. The list won two seats in the 11th Knesset.
Avi holds an MA degree (summa cum laude) from Tel-Aviv University and a Ph.D. (magna cum laude) from the Goethe University, Frankfurt/M, Germany.
